One of the greatest obstacles to success on the SAT is the conflict between the largely process-oriented approach to high school curricula and the strictly outcome-oriented focus of standardized testing.
This course seeks to provide students with the fundamental skills necessary to succeed on the critical reading, writing and math sections of the test while introducing test-taking skills that promote efficiency, critical decision-making, and task analysis.
The Essex Tutoring SAT Prep Course concentrates on critical reading, grammar, vocabulary, mathematical reasoning, math problem recognition and problem solving skills and provides the opportunity to take three simulated tests.
Classes meet once a week for three hours over an eight week period. Each class session is split between language arts and math.
Included with registration, each student will receive copies of the course texts:
- Hot Words for the SAT I, 2nd Edition, by Linda Carnevale (Barron’s Educational Series, Inc.)
- The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT, by The College Board (Henry Holt & Co., Inc.)
